The family behind Les Hauts de Milly, Didier Defaix and Hélène Jaeger-Defaix, own vineyards in both Chablis and Rully through marriage. The winery and cellar are located in the small village of Milly, on the left bank of the Serein, where all the grapes are brought for vinification so they can keep a watchful eye over the quality and ageing of the wine.
The Côte de Lechet vineyard lies just above the small village of Milly, on a steep, southeastern facing slope. The family owns nine hectares in this vineyard, making them the largest owners of this cru. The grapes come from 25 different parcels in the vineyard.
The Kimmeridgian clay soils in Côte de Léchet lend this wine a distinct saline edge and powerful character. The nose is fragrant with aromas of white flowers, lemon and apricot and hints of gunflint. On the palate are intense citrus fruit flavors and a persistent salinity which carry through to the long finish.
The 2019 Received 93 Points from Wine Enthusiast where they said 'From the coolest of the premier crus, this wine is as much about texture as fruit. Young and taut with touches of spice and a steely edge, the wine is just setting out.'
