In 1880, William Keyes, a geologist, came to Napa Valley and discovered
what he felt was a remarkable area on Howell Mountain with the perfect
soils for wine. The soils reminded him of those on Lipari Island, a
volcanic archipelago off the coast of Sicily, and that became in
inspiration for the name “Liparita.” in 2006, Spencer Hoopes purchased
and revived the Liparita brand and he's been producing expressive
appellation designated Cabernet's since.
For this Atlas Peak Cab the fruit was sourced entirely from a single vineyard block that's the same one sourced for Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Artemis Cab. The vineyard estate is an amphitheatre-like setting, situated above the fog line. The steep, rocky and well-drained soils result in low yield fully ripened grapes with great structure and concentration. Winemaker Josh Widaman brings 15 years of winemaking experience at Chimney Rock, Pahlmeyer and Lewis Cellars where Wine Spectator selected his Cab as 2016's Wine of the Year!
This is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 9 Months 100% new French oak barrels. Aromas of rich dark fruits including ripe boysenberry and black currant emerge from the glass. The mouthfeel is generous in both richness and texture, lending notes of vanilla, spice, and leather. The finish showcases youthful tannins giving this wine extended aging potential.
