    About Martin Ray 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve, Napa Valley

    Martin Ray works with handpicked growers from diverse California wine regions that they have cultivated relationships with. Their winemaker begins shaping each wine while its still in the vineyard and vinifies each in small lots at their winery in the heart of Sonoma's Russian River Valley. For this Reserve Napa Valley Cab, prime grapes were sourced from Oak Knoll, Stags Leap District and Rutherford vineyards. The 2014 vintage, due to drought, produced amazing fruit with small clusters and low yields. An ideal harvest with consistently moderate temperatures and weather conditions, allowed the vines and fruit to stay healthy and maintain concentrated flavors and exceptional quality. The wine was crafted using classic, labor intensive, small-lot winemaking techniques which bring enhanced flavors and textures. The individual lots were cold-soaked for 4 days, then spent two weeks in open-top fermenters, where they were gently punched down by hand. Finally the wine aged for 16 months in 50% new French oak barrels. The strong, traditional bouquet layers notes of ripe black cherry, dark cassis, aromatic violets, and savory curry spices rooted by earthy undertones. With clean fruit throughout the palate. The wine has well-structured tannins balanced by a nuance of toffee and caramel oak influence. A solid Napa Cab that's hard to beat for price!
