About Mas de Boislauzon 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape, Cuvee Quet

The celebrated estate of Mas de Boislauzon is located north of the appellation Châteauneuf-du-Pape on the town Orange at the place called Boislauzon. Christine et Daniel Chaussy, the 5th generation of winemakers of this family, run the estate. Today, their children have joined them as well. The estate was certified organic in 2012. They own 11 acres of Châteauneuf-du-Pape vineyards spread over 15 plots.

This wine is always their most impressive release. In 2016 it is a blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Mourvèdre aged in foudres and barriques (1 and 2 years old) for 18 months. Grapes are hand sorted before fermentation in cement tanks and macerate over 3 to 4 weeks.

Jeb Dunnuck scored this wine 98 points saying “Similarly colored to the classic cuvée, the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Quet is 80% Grenache and 20% Mourvèdre. It offers a huge, rich, powerful style that never goes over the top and stays balanced and graceful. Currants, toasted spices, caramelized beef, and exotic notes all flow to a massively textured, powerhouse of a wine that has a stacked mid-palate, a bombastic personality, and a great finish. It needs two to three years of bottle age but is an incredible, heady, powerful wine.”

Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored this 96 points saying “Cassis and blueberry flavors are juicy and mouthfilling in this buoyant, fruity wine. It’s a glossy, silken sip, but anchored by a stalwart grip of tannins. Enjoyable in youth for its lipsmacking fruit it should gain finesse and savoriness through 2030. Wines of France Inc.”
