This
wine is produced by the third generation of the Fetzer family. Ben and
Jake Fetzer purchased the Masut Ranch in 1992 to grow organic Pinot
Noir. Of course the family's roots go far back in that region and was
ahead of its time as the region is now considered one of the very best
areas for growing Pinot Noir in all of California. The high elevation
vineyard, around 1,000 feet above sea level is in the brand new Eagle
Peak AVA. The wine was aged for 12 months in 50% new French oak. Just
1,500 cases were produced. Wine Enthusiast made it Editors' Choice and scored it 92 points saying
"Beautiful blueberry aromas and plump black cherry and blueberry flavors
lend a unique character to this ripe, fruity and full-bodied wine from
interior Mendocino. Any oak accents take a back seat to the
concentrated, layered and luxurious berry character that fills out the
wine's broad but soft mouthfeel." and Wine Spectator scored it 92 as well saying "Pure and rich, well-centered on a harmonious core of plum, blackberry
and olallieberry, ending with a strong aftertaste that echoes the core
flavor themes. Drink now through 2025."
