Còlpetrone is one of the most important wineries in Montefalco DOCG area. The Sagrantino grape, a native variety of Montefalco, is one of Italy's oldest grapes, rich in bold tannins and complex flavors. Very careful cultivation is required in order to enhance power and uniqueness of the Sagrantino, and to ensure the right balance and elegance. Careful systems are adopted in vineyard to produce yields well below even those permitted by the strict regulations. This Rosso is a blend of 70% Sangiovese, 15% Sagrantino and 15% Merlot. The grapes are carefully selected and fermentation and maceration take place in stainless steel tanks for 15 days at controlled temperature. After the wines are immediately transferred into French oak barrels where they age for 12 months. This wine was awarded a Gold Medal at the Berliner Wein Competition and James Suckling scored this 92 points saying "A round and velvety red showing chocolate, walnut and wet-earth character together with plummy fruit. Medium body, soft texture and a delicious finish. Why wait on this one?"
