Started by Rombauer back in the 80's Napa Cellars is now owned by the Trinchero Family Estate. As a result they are able to source premium Napa fruit from their almost 300 acres of estate vineyards in Napa Valley. That's really what makes this wine stand out and why it's so good. It's not just another Napa Cab but it's a Napa Cab with pedigree, quality and consistency, all at amazing value. The outstanding 2014 vintage brought beautifully ripe, complex grapes throughout Napa Valley. Sourcing for this Cab included prime sites in Rutherford, Saint Helena and Atlas Peak appellations. 96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Malbec, 2% Zinfandel, grapes were hand-harvested in the cool morning. The fruit was hand-sorted, gently de-stemmed and lightly crushed. During an 11-21-day maceration period, the extraction of color and flavor were maximized and the tannins polished for a rich, supple mouthfeel. The new wine aged in 28% new French oak barrels for 13 months. The 2013 scored 92. This 2014 is another outstanding effort that was just awarded a Gold Medal in the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition!
