About Napa Cellars 2021 Merlot, Napa Valley
Napa Wine Cellars has been making wine for more than 40 years. Their winery sits on the original five acres that established Napa Cellars winery in 1976 along historic Highway 29 in Oakville. Grapes for Napa Cellars Merlot are sourced from vineyards from the mid-southern parts of Napa Valley, including Oak Knoll and Atlas Peak. These regions are ideal for cultivating Merlot grapes with moderate to cool climates that support an extended growing season, resulting in an elegant, intricate, complex, and balanced wine.
Once harvested, the grapes underwent a 10 to 16-day maceration period and were fermented using the délestage method. This process allows the winemaker to extract copious amounts of color and flavor from the skins while avoiding excessive extraction of bitter and astringent flavors. After the fermentation process was completed, the wine was aged for 15 months in 100% French oak barrels, 36% of which were new.
Winemaker Notes
Napa Cellars Merlot boasts aromas of dark fruit, plum, and dried herbs. Flavors of black plum and blackberry are complimented by toffee and mocha notes. This medium-bodied wine showcases bright and balanced acidity with firm tannins and a long finish.
