Here's a real find! This is a wine that our friend Trevor Sheehan put together (see our May 26th Blog entry here). It's a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Merlot and as usual he acquired the grapes from some very interesting, and exceptional sources. The Cab is from a vineyard in Calistoga at the North end of Napa Valley that backs up to a famous Chateau in that neighborhood and the Merlot is from a top grower in the Stags' Leap District. So the rich Cabernet from Napa Valleys warmest region combines with Merlot from the much cooler Stags Leap AVA to make a wine with remarkable complexity and a ripe approachable style that still has the depth and backbone to go the distance. It's aged in 50% American and 50% French Oak barrels, 25% new. Just looking at the Navigator Cab bottle with it's stunning high-design silk screened label, you know this is upscale juice, which it is, because when you try this Killer Cab you'll agree that it drinks like a $50 plus wine. But what's really great about Trevor's wines is how much bang you get for your wine-buying dollar. The price tag is well below the $50 mark and it's worth every penny. Don't Miss It!
