About Nebbiolo D'Alba 2015 Occhetti, Prunotto
Half a century ago Alfredo Prunotto's was the first winery to individually select grapes from the finest vineyards and to designate the name of the vineyard (cru) on the wine label to point out the quality and specific characteristics of these vineyards. Today "Cru" wines are still an important focus for Prunotto and this is one of them. The Occhetti vineyard is about 825 feet above sea level with a south-southwestern exposure and sandy soils stratified with layers of gravel and of clayey sands. The Nebbiolo grown there has a unique quality. The grapes are pressed and maceration extends for 10 days. The wine is aged for 12 months in both large and small two-year-old oak casks. From the exceptional 2015 vintage, it shows elegant rose, red berry fruit and licorice character with full body, excellent balance, a lush mouthfeel and a long finish.
