About Nomine Renard 2015 Vintage Champagne Brut, Special Club
Special Club Champagne is the highest tier of classification that grower Champagnes can achieve. The Club de Trésors, or Club of Treasures was established in 1971 under the name Club de Viticulteurs Champenois, to assess quality among growers in Champagne. Only wines that pass the rigour evaluation unanimously can be bottled in a dedicated green Special Club bottle, whose design is based on one from the 18th century. Only members can use the green Special Club bottles.
Nomine Renard are family owned independent growers, which means managing the production from the land to the bottle, this is the guarantee of a unique wine, with a sense of place. Simon Nominé looks after the vines until the grapes have reached their best. During harvest, the fruit is selected, hand-picked and directly pressed in their Cellar in Villevenard. The estate has grapes planted across six different villages, spread in 36 plots. They press and vinify each grape-variety and each plot separately, to maintain the identify of the unique terroirs.
For this Special Club cuvee, produced in only the finest vintages, the blend is 30% Chardonnay and 70% Pinot Noir from three different villages and vineyards with 30 year old vines. The wine is vinified in stainless steel and aged 60 months on the lees.
This very special Champagne shows aromas of white peach, lime citrus and white flower floral notes. The palate is bracing a fresh with lovely fruit and floral mingling with beautiful minerality. A tremendously long finish brings up hints of hazelnut and almond. This of course is a wine with a high ageing potential. Extremely Limited!!
