About Oreno 2016 Toscana, Sette Ponti

Owner of the Sette Ponti estate, Dr. Antonio Moretti's enjoyment of wine led him to ask his friend and customer for his grapes, Piero Antinori if Sette Ponti estate vineyards could produce great wines. Antinori thought they could. The estate has since been transformed through consultation with respected oenologist Carlo Ferrini and others to produce the finest grapes possible. Oreno is a Tuscan Bordeaux blend of Merlot, Cabernet and Petit Verdot from the oldest vines on the property. At harvest the clusters are handpicked, sorted, destemmed. Maceration lasts 25 days and then the wine is placed in new, 225-liter Allier oak barriques for a period of eighteen months. A first blending of lots takes place when the wine is placed in barrique; a second at the first racking. The finished wine is bottled without filtration and rests one year prior to release. James Suckling scored this 99 points saying "Gorgeous floral and deep, dark berry aromas with hints of spices such as cinnamon and hazelnuts. Full body and ultra-fine and strong tannins that are powerful yet so sleek and beautiful. Fantastic length and texture. Deep, dark and profound. Takes you on a long journey and shows you its true character. Better in 2025. Give it time."
