About Patrimony 2019 Cabernet Franc, Adelaida Dist., Paso Robles

Patrimony is the creation of brothers Daniel Daou and Georges Daou, proprietors of Daou Vineyards & Winery. Through Patrimony Estate, the inseparable brothers seek to further their own dreams of creating luxury, world-class wines that rival the best in Bordeaux, Napa Valley and beyond.

Grapes are sourced from the one-of-a-kind, scenic DAOU Mountain, which ranges from 1,700 to 2,200 feet in elevation. The calcareous clay soils are akin to Bordeaux, which drew the brothers to this unique terroir on the westside of Paso Robles. Located only 13 miles from the Pacific Ocean, the vineyards experience an intense diurnal temperature shift which allows them to receive the perfect balance of concentrated flavors and balancing acidities.

Fermentation proceeds exclusively with wild yeasts cultured from DAOU Mountain, imbuing the wine with native texture and character. Maturation unfolds for 30 months in rare, custom-made French oak barrels prized for their fine grain and distinctive elegance. Only after further aging in the bottle for one year do all these aspects coalesce into complete symmetry.

Jeb Dunnuck scored this 97-99 from barrel saying "Along the same lines, the 2019 Patrimony Cabernet Franc (100% Cabernet Franc aging in new French oak) is slightly more California in style with a Napa-like sexiness and opulence. Stunning blackberries, dried flowers, incense, dried tobacco, and cedary notes all soar from the glass, and it's a powerful, super-rich barrel sample that still stays balanced and even elegant. It ranks with some of the finest examples of this variety in California."

The Wine Advocate scored this 97 points saying "The 2019 Cabernet Franc is made from free-run juice and matured for 30 months in 100% new French oak. Deep ruby in color, it opens with savory tones of roasted peppers, chargrill, graphite and iodine over a core of lush blackcurrant. The full-bodied palate is supple and seamless with a velvety texture, notably refreshing acidity, pure, layered fruit and a long finish with alluring spicy accents."

James Suckling scored this 96 points saying "Classy cabernet franc freshness with great varietal characters here, showing fresh leaves, undergrowth, green olives, cigar box, chili chocolate. Rich and full-bodied but still quite juicy, and not heavy at all. Firm, really sleek and silky with a long, lasting finish showing a hint of vanilla in the finish."
