PEJU Winery began with Tony Peju daring to sell wines in an informal facility: the garage at their vineyard estate in Rutherford, Napa Valley. A lengthy legal battle ensued and Peju persisted: this became the catalyst for Napa County to create the legal definition of what a winery is which was adopted in 1991. It is no wonder that Tony is called "The Father of Custom Crush ".
PEJU now has six vineyard estates located throughout the Napa Valley. The first 30-acre parcel in Rutherford was purchased in 1983. Today, the winery owns five properties totalling 558 acres, 232 of which are currently planted. Their 30 acre Rutherford Estate was certified organic in 2007 by the California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF) and in 2019 they were certified Fish Friendly Farming at all of our vineyard properties. Â They currently practice sustainable farming at all of their vineyard properties with the goal of becoming organically certified within the next few years.
This gorgeous wine greets the nose with fragrant aromas of dried Mission figs and hints of thyme. The flavors that follow include berry compote, red cherry, vanilla, light brown sugar and hints of cocoa. It's a bright, juicy wine with many layers and soft supple tannins that lead to an elegant finish.
