About Pertinace 2016 Barbaresco, Marcarini

The Pertinace winery was founded on the outskirts of the village of Treiso by Mario Barbero and twelve grower friends between late 1972 and early 1973. With great enthusiasm, they decided to combine their properties and experience to produce wines of the highest quality.

This is one of their signature wines sourced from The Marcarinin Vineyard. Situated in Treiso, this vineyard has a south-westerly exposure. Nebbiolo grapes from Macarini produce a soft, well-structured, deep garnet red wine with scents of spices and dried fruit. The result is a harmonious, elegant Barbaresco. A tour of the Macarini vineyard is a fantastic experience for the venturesome with a good head for heights as the vineyard is the steep and precipitous, ideal for capturing the most direct rays of the sun.

The 100% Nebbiolo grapes are picked when they are fully ripe, and immediately crushed. The must is then left to ferment in special tanks at a controlled temperature for 40-60 days. The wine is then aged for 18 months in Slavonian oak casks. It completes its development in the bottle.

Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored this 93 points saying "Aromas of rose petal, woodland berry, new leather and balsamic notes of menthol and wild herbs mingle together in the glass. The firmly structured, elegant palate shows finesse and aging potential, delivering juicy black raspberry, Marasca cherry, licorice and a hint of espresso alongside fine-grained, slightly dusty tannins and bright acidity."

James Suckling scored this 93 points saying "Another Barbaresco with some impressive ripeness, but also balance. Glazed cherries, roasted herbs and strawberry compote all come to the party. Full-bodied and very serious with an underlying density to the robust tannins. The finish, for all its length, is quite nuanced, too. Drink from 2023." Limited!!
