Since the 1945 vintage, Chateau Figeac has produced a second wine, created by Thierry Manocourt, who was one of the first Bordeaux winegrowers to impose strict selection based on quality. Renamed Petit-Figeac from the 2012 vintage, it has always been made solely from grapes grown on the Chateau Figeac Estate.
Figeac is the largest estate of Saint-Emilion, covering 54 hectares. Besides its 40 hectares of vines, a variety of landscapes combine to form a balance in nature, today known as biodiversity. Figeac has an outstanding terroir consisting of three gravelly rises. In keeping with the nature of this soil, Figeac is the Right Bank estate with the highest percentage of Cabernet. This atypical combination accounts for wines that are elegant, long-lived and extremely well-reputed.
Wine Enthusiast scoredd this 94 points saying, "The second wine of Château Figeac, this reflects the top wine's chiseled structure and firm tannins, rich in black currant and damson fruits. The tannins and vanilla flavors give the wine sweetness, echoed by the generous fruits. Drink from 2025."
James Suckling also scored this 94 points saying, "The plum, cedar, mushroom, forest-floor and sandalwood aromas are so enticing. It’s full-bodied, yet ever so fine and caressing with lovely tannins. Long and energetic at the finish. Lots of elegance and structure here. Nicely done. Try after 2024."
Vinous gave this 92 points saying, "The 2018 Petit-Figeac is ridiculously good. The 2018 is a very pretty, mid-weight Saint-Émilion that impresses with its sheer charm and allure, both of which it has in spades. Close your eyes, and just enjoy."
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate gave it 91 points saying, "Sporting a medium to deep garnet-purple color, the 2018 Petit-Figeac has a very pretty nose of Black Forest cake, mulberries and raspberry leaves, leading to suggestions of cinnamon stick, rose oil and tilled soil. The medium-bodied palate has all the class of its big brother, Figeac, if slightly less intensity and layers, offering soft, skillfully managed tannins and seamless freshness to support the earth-laced black fruit layers, finishing long and earthy. This is an impressive second wine that really does have the same compelling personality of the grand vin!"
