The Pieropan estate dates back to the late 1800's when Nino Pieropan's grandfather built a following for his excellent and innovative Soave wines. Today The Pieropans are showing the world just how great Soave can be in the right hands. Terrain is Nino's first secret, like the vineyard where this wine is sourced, Calvarino. It's a single vineyard in the heart of the Soave Classico zone at 600 and 9,000 feet above sea level and old vines up to 60 years of age. 70% Garganega and 30% Trebbiano.
After temperature-controlled fermentation, the wine aged in glass-lined cement tanks for one year, during which it remained on the fine lees for increased richness and complexity. After bottling, it aged slowly in the bottle for a few months before release. No scores yet for this 2018 but the breeding is exceptional, 96's and 95's for the previous vintages.
This wine has a delicate nose is reminiscent of almond blossoms and marzipan. Good depth of fruit on the palate, nicely balanced by a zingy acidity that enhances its long length.
