One reason it's so good might be that they work with a famous wine growing family to very carefully hand select their grapes for this wine. The family prefers to be nameless but you’ve heard of them as their name appears on the labels of some of Napa Valley’s most extravagant wines. Their vineyard at the south end of Carneros where the cooling breezes off of the San Pablo Bay lets Pinot Noir ripen slowly, taking on nuance and complexity is another gem. The Poundstone team chose select clones from the vineyard; Pommard, 115, 777 and Calera and vinified them each separately. They do a cold soak initially for several days and then slowly let the temperature rise to begin fermentation. Color extraction and tannin levels were closely monitored to achieve a gentle, elegant wine with light tannins and rich flavors. The wine was pressed off at dryness, and aged in 40% new French oak for a period of 10 months. The blending of the different clonal lots was then done after barrel aging.
This unique blend of different clones comes together to express the purity of Pinot Noir fruit. It shows aromas of raspberries, strawberries, sugar plums and cola. There's lush black cherry and strawberry fruit on the palate and a gentle note of spice and vanilla that adds zestiness. The supple tannins create a very pleasurable mouthfeel and flavors linger on in the finish.
The winery was generous enough to make us a special offer so that we can bring you this unique, single vineyard Pinot at a very special price. Of course we don't have to remind you of how limited it is, so don't wait. Grab this beauty right now while it's still here!
