Here's a very rare treat, a Howell Mountain Cab from the outstanding 2012 vintage made by a Napa Valley veteran. Prim Family Vineyards has been delivering highly acclaimed and award winning wines since its inception, their vineyards at 1700 feet on Howell Mountain producing outstanding Cabernet fruit. To make the best possible wine with their fruit they needed someone with the right kind of experience; enter Rudy Von Strasser. Von Strasser of course has his own mountain winery across the Valley on Diamond Mountain. After graduating from UC Davis he interned at Chateau Lafite Rothschild and then worked in Napa for Trefethen and Newton before starting his winery which has been named a Winery of the Year. He was definitely the right man for the job.
For this 2012 Cab, the grapes were hand-picked at the peak of flavor development, crushed and cold soaked for 72 hours. The cap was punched down two times daily to maximize flavor extraction during fermentation and maceration, which lasted 14 to 21 days. The wine was aged in 100% French oak barrels for 30 months prior to bottling. It's been resting in the winery cellars, slowly maturing and shedding the bold tannins of its youth. This perfectly aged Cab shows enticing aromas of ripe black cherries, cassis, dark chocolate and roasted coffee. On the palate it's caressingly soft and inviting with more dark black cherry, black plums, cassis espresso and dark chocolate that linger on the finish. At a beautiful peak of drinkability now, it should continue to drink well for at least the next 3-5 years or beyond. But what's most exciting about this wine is that we're offering it to our Wine Express customers at a deep discount on this pre-sale, so get your orders in and don't miss it!
