About Rioja Reserva 2011 Ysios
Bodegas Ysisos is a landmark winery in the Rioja Alavesa. The stunning winemaking facility designed by Santiago Calatrava nestled in the foothills of the Sierra de Cantabria mountain range – the peaks mirrored in the undulations of the bodega. Named after the Egyptian goddess of magic, who oversaw the conversion of grapes into wine; this producer has blessed us with outstanding Reserva wines. This 2011 is 100% Tempranillo sourced from mature vineyards averaging 35 years of age. The aging takes place in 100% French oak barrels for 14 months with a high proportion of new oak. This Reserva scored a 96 point Platinum Medal in the Critics Challenge Wine Competition. They said "Ysios’ Reserva from 2011 is a brilliant example of a modern Rioja, exhibiting exceptional fruit purity and freshness despite its advanced age. The oak spice is prominent but in context, complementing the impressive fruit without dominating it. The tannins are sweet and supple, and the finish shows elegance and exceptional length. Drink or lay down for at least ten years."
