About Rudd 2018 Estate Red, Oakville, Napa Valley
Rudd Estate founded by Leslie Rudd, stands out as an exceptional place with unmatched terroir, uniquely situated in Napa Valley with a geologic backbone of volcanic rock and alluvial sediments creating iron-rich, well-drained soil, ideal for growing Cabernet grapes. The vineyards are farmed organically and biodynamically by their own full-time team. Having their own team enables some of the most significant winemaking actions of the year to be made in a focused, adaptive, and timely manner.
Winery itself is state-of-the-art and boasts of 20,000 square feet of subterranean wine caves where the wines age and refine in barrel.
This Estate Red is 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Cabernet Franc aged in 58% new and 42% once-used French oak barrels.
The Wine Advocate scored this 98+ points saying "A blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Cabernet Franc, the 2018 Oakville Estate Proprietary Red Wine was aged for 22 months in French oak barrels, 55% new. Deep garnet-purple colored, it sashays out of the glass with flamboyant scents of candied violets, red roses, black raspberries and fragrant earth over a core of cassis, wild blueberries and Morello cherries with a waft of pencil lead. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is an exercise in poise, featuring beautifully balanced velvety tannins and seamless freshness framing the opulent black and red berry layers, finishing very long and perfumed."
