About Sant 2014 Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir

Super Limited, perfectly aged Sta. Rita Hills Pinot!

The origins of Sant Wines derives from Debbie and Greg Hammill's fascination with the history of wine making in California and the influence of its missions bringing the first varietal, the Mission grape. Their mission resulted in the numerous names of cities and counties using San and Santa coming from the root word Sant, used in many languages, meaning good and truth.

It became their mission to create the best wine for a particular microclimate and varietal. It is the infinite combinations that propelled their creativity to inspire this mission to make “outstanding” wines that are “truthful” to their origin. And they have certainly succeeded in doing so with their Santa Rita Hills Pinot!

The Sta. Rita Hills AVA, which formed in 2001, is known as the prime Central Coast wine region for Pinot Noir. With its cool breezes, warm climate and marine deposit filled soil, wines from this region are noted by their  concentrated fruit, stony minerality and vibrant acidity. The iconic Pinots from Sea Smoke, The Hilt, Sanford, Brewer-Clifton, Melville, Siduri and Whitecraft all hail from this highly recognizable AVA.

This perfectly aged Pinot is simply stunning and drinking wonderfully right now. Well developed red and black cherry, strawberry and cranberry aromas gain intensity on the nose with notes of clove, cinnamon, pot pourri playing against the earthy, forest floor undertones. The mouthfeel is soft yet expansive, as the balance between the vibrant acidity, concentration fruit and silky tannins is harmonious. With some its 2013/2014 counter parts receiving 93/94 point scores, the supreme quality here is not surprising.
