From
Shafer Vineyards comes this incredible Syrah that's named for their
winemaker Elia Fernandez, who's pursuit of quality is relentless. Robert
Parker said "One of Napa's most prominent and respected wineries,
Shafer is a poster boy for remarkable and consistent quality across the
board. All of this is the work of the brilliant father and son team of
John and Doug Shafer as well as their long-term winemaker and vineyard
manager, Elias Fernandez. With over 200-plus acres of estate holdings,
and 55 surrounding their winery in Stags Leap, this is a winery that
never seems to disappoint. This 2015 is a blend of 90% Syrah, 10% Petite
Sirah, aged 30 months in 100% new 60-gallon French oak barrels (Allier
& Tronçais).
The Wine Spectator scored this 93 points saying "Rich and deeply structured, with powerfully built blackberry, river stone and smoky pepper beef flavors that take on potency toward refined tannins. Syrah and Petite Sirah. Drink now through 2024."
and The Wine Advocate scored this 95+ saying "Blended of 90% Syrah and 10% Petite Sirah, the deep purple-black colored 2015 Relentless has a total rock-star nose of flamboyant blackberry pie, plum preserves, mulberries and licorice scents with hints of Sichuan pepper, hoisin, Indian spices and smoked meats plus a waft of raspberry leaves. Very big, rich, full and decadently fruited in the mouth, the palate packs in black fruits and exotic spices layers with a firm, rounded tannin frame and just enough freshness to carry off the long, opulent finish."
