About Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 Alexander Valley, Simi
Simi Vineyards has enjoyed a rich history in California wine making. One of the first wineries to rebound after prohibition and since then has lead the charge in making classic Alexander Valley Cabs among other prime selections. The first American client of famous French Enologist Michel Rolland, current winemaker Steve Reeder has won consistent accolades throughout the industry including making a Wine Spectator #1 Wine of the Year when he worked at Chateau St. Jean. Simi owns 600 acres of estate vineyards in Alexander Valley including the Landslide vineyard, and so Reeder has access to the best fruit in the region.
2014 was another outstanding vintage and this wine shows it. A blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Malbec aged 14 months in 100% small oak barrels; 15% new French oak, 10% new American oak. It shows bright cherry, blackberry, plum, and cassis seasoned with baking spice, cedar, and chocolate notes. Full-bodied yet silky with supple tannins and a long finish. A classy wine that's a stalwart of Sonoma County, showing real pedigree and at a great price.
Tasting Panel Magazine scored this 93 points saying "This is a stunning vintage for one of Alexander Valley’s prestigious labels, with exotic jasmine and sweet black raspberry aromas. Boysenberry and mulberry jam and toast drape the mouth and the continuing parade of expressive fruit become more dramatic and voluptuous. Tannins are round and the texture is plush."
