About Skryne Road 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
Still a minority among Napa Valley Winemakers, but it seems like women produce some of the Valley's very best wines. You may not have heard of Barb Spelletich, but she is a confident, accomplished winemaker, who makes fine wine with a focus on on fruit. Oak aging and time in the bottle add nuance. She's know to hold back wines for several years in for them to gain complexity which is exactly the situation we have with this fine Napa Cab. From the outstanding 2016 vintage, this wine that she impeccably crafted has gained a stunning array of layers and nuance.
Sourced from exceptional vineyards throughout the Valley, this Cab is blended with small amounts of Merlot, Sangiovese, and Petite Sirah. It has rich color and the nose is fragrant with aromas of red cherry, black cherry, dried roses, and blackberry, violets, star anise and dark cocoa. On the palate, those flavors mingle with baked plums and dried figs, cigar box cedar and cured tobacco. The palate is lush with soft velvety tannins and the myriad flavors linger on the finish. There's also a solid core to this wine that promises many more years of delightful drinking.
