    About Sondraia 2013 Bolgheri Superiore, Poggio al Tesoro

    The Poggio al Tesoro is an incredible Tuscan estate located in Bolgheri with vineyards right next to Sassicaia, a stone's throw from Ornellaia and down the road from Ca'Marcanda- Quite a neighborhood! The estate is owned by the Allegrini family, famous for their world class Amarones and Veneto wines. Sondraia is their Super Tuscan blend sourced from a single estate vineyard. Grapes are hand harvested and a manual selection is done upon arrival at the winery with the use of a sorting table. The blend is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, and the wine aged  18 months in French oak barriques from Allier, 50% new, 50% second use. This wine has received many accolade, not least of which a Platinum Medal, 96 points "best Tuscan Red" from Decanter in the Decanter World Wine Awards. It received 93+ from the Wine Advocate who said "Aromas of black currant and a whiff of bell pepper slowly emerge on this hearty blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Concentrated and robust, the palate offers cassis, black cherry, licorice and the heat of evident alcohol alongside big velvety tannins." and James Suckling scored it 95 saying "Fantastic aromas of blackberry, black currant and fresh herbs. Lots of rosemary. Full body, yet firm and polished. Very balanced and silky. Love the harmony in this. A blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot and cabernet franc. Drink in 2018."
