About Sonoma Cutrer 2016 Chardonnay, Sonoma Coast

An iconic winery that created a cult following for its Chardonnays back in the 1980's Sonoma-Cutrer is still going strong and producing outstanding wines. Its uncompromising methods of vineyard management, grape oversight and cellar maturation are the winemaking principles that allow Sonoma-Cutrer to create wines unlike any other. This Sonoma Coast Chardonnay reflects a balance of fruit flavors and oak aging. The Sonoma Coast appellation feature diverse soil types and growing and conditions perfect for producing exceptional Chardonnay. For this vintage, the blend contains fruit from their five Russian River Valley Estate Vineyards; Cutrer, Vine Hill, Shiloh, Kent and Owsley plus fruit from a small group of carefully selected growers. After hand sorting, the grapes were whole-cluster pressed to avoid bitter tannins from the skins and grape seeds. The cool, free-run juice was then settled naturally in tanks for a few days before heading to French oak barrels and stainless steel for fermentation. The wine was then aged sur-lies in French oak for 8 months. This Chard was awarded a Gold Medal, 90 points in the San Diego Wine & Spirits Challenge. It shows aromas of nectarine, stone fruit, white peach, oak spice, vanilla, toasted nuts and a touch of butterscotch. This wine has the distinctive balance between elegance and richness for a medium-bodied, mouth-filling wine with a creamy texture and flavors of ripe pear and peach and a long, silky finish highlighted by barrel spice notes.
