About Spiriterra 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
Here's a true gem that you're not going to want to miss. Spiriterra Vineyards is a small, family-owned vineyard located in the eastern hillside vineyards of St. Helena off Howell Mountain and Conn Valley Roads. Their Cabernet Sauvignon fruit is 100% estate from their two acre vineyard. Their winemaker is veteran Kenn Vigoda, who cut his chops at Raymond Vineyards and Judd’s Hill. His wines have always been about great balance and keeping the fruit vibrant as the tannins soften with age. Although approachable in their youth, Spiriterra wines are built to age. We got our hands on a small quantity of their 2012 that reflects this quality exactly. It shows bright cherry and blackberry fruit with a bit of sage sprinkled in on the nose. The fruit follows nicely in the mouth with the herbal notes adding complexity and moderate tannins giving a beautiful chewy mouth feel. The overall elegance is notable with a balanced alcohol of just 13.5%, while the backbone of polished tannins tells you it will reward your patience if you age it for 10 to 15 years. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 24 months in French oak barrels AND it scored a 93 point Gold Medal in the North Coast Wine Challenge. Don't hesitate, this one's a winner and you won't find prime boutique Napa Cab at a price like this any time soon, or ever.
