About Spring Mountain Vineyard 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate, Napa Valley
Here's a very rare Library Selection from historic Spring Mountain Vineyards. Originally 285 acres, it had the first Cabernet Sauvignon planted on Spring Mountain. Spring Mountain Vineyard is an 850-acre estate of forest and vineyard on the eastern slopes of Spring Mountain which rises next to the town of Saint Helena in Napa Valley. The vineyard occupies about 226 acres of the estate which starts at approximately 250 feet above sea level topping out at over 1,600 feet above sea level. It is broken into 135 unique and separate hillside vineyard blocks. All of these blocks are different from the other in the height, slope, soil, sun exposure, and microclimate they possess. This gives our winemaker a wealth of choices as each block produces a different taste and profile.
Upon release in 2009 Wine Enthusiast Magazine designated this a Cellar Selection saying "This complex, young wine needs time. It’s tannic and closed, although it has a rich heart of black currants, spice and minerals, accented by nearly 2 years in oak. Nowhere near ready, but an elegant example of a classic Napa mountain Cab. Should start to be approachable after 2010." They scored it 91 points then, now it has reached its potential and is showing layered complexity with a silky soft texture. A Cab lover's dream come true!
