About Stag's Leap Wine Cellars 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon, Fay Vyd., Napa Valley
One of the great vineyards of Napa Valley, pioneer farmer Nathan Fay planted his vineyard way back in 1961. It was the first Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard planted in the Stags Leap District. Fay Vineyard Cabs have garnered tremendous praise and accolades over this half century including countless 90+ scores. Stag's Leap Wine Cellars purchased most of Fay's vineyard when the grower retired in 1986 and Fay Vineyard Cab continues to be one of their signature wines. This 2018 is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged 20 months in 100% new French oak.
Wine Enthusiast Magazine awarded this an Editors' Choice and scored it 98 points saying "From the famous site that kicked off a revolution in Napa Cabernet, this wine is aromatic in cedar, earth and sage. Robust and generously concentrated in berry, cherry and cassis, it is complex, structured and velvety smooth, the tannins supple and supportive, unfurling slowly in the glass."
James Suckling scored this 96 points saying "Very floral with violets and roses, as well as sweet berries, cherries and some redcurrants. It’s round and refined with lovely berry character and fine tannins."
Wine Advocate scored this 93-95 from barrel saying "A barrel sample, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Fay Vineyard has a deep garnet-purple color and vibrant scents of freshly crushed red and black currants, fresh black berries and wild blueberries plus hints of cardamom, lavender, black olives and fertile loam. The medium to full-bodied palate is chock-full of crunchy red, black and blue berry layers, supported by sturdy tannins and loads of freshness, finishing earthy."
