    About Tamber Bey 2013 Rabicano Red Blend, Deux Chevaux Vyd., Yountville, Napa Vly.

    This is an exciting find, a 2013 Napa Valley Cab blend from a single vineyard in Yountville. Barry Waitte founded Tamber Bey Vineyards in 1999, when he purchased a 60-acre vineyard in the Yountville Appellation. Waitte's Deux Chevaux Vineyard pay's homage to Tamber Bey’s namesake, his first two Arabian horses. The Deux Chevaux Vineyard is a 60-acre parcel bordered by two waterways; Conn Creek runs the length of the eastern border of the vineyard and the Napa River runs along the western corner. Planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Merlot, the vineyard is influenced by the San Francisco Bay and the early morning fog and late afternoon winds that it generates. Tamber Bey’s wines are made by winemaker Frederic Delivert, a French-born and trained winemaker who gained his Napa footing working at some of the best; Far Niente, Duckhorn, Hafner, Cade and PlumpJack. This wine is a masterful blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc. It aged for 18 months in barrels from Taransaud, Ana Selection, Marques, Darnajou and Vicard, 68% new. Robert Parker liked this wine enough to score it 92+ and say "The 2013 Rabicano is a blend made of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. Another winner from this winery, the wine has a dense bluish/purple to the rim, a big, sweet kiss of blueberry and blackberry fruit, toasty oak, a full-bodied mouthfeel, big chewy intensity and 2013's power, super-depth and purity well-displayed. Give this wine 3-4 years cellaring and drink it over the following two decades." Just over 1500 cases were produced and the wine has been gently aging in the winery cellar until we got got out hands on it.
