Tenuta di Renieri is located in the southernmost part of the Chianti Classico zone, in the town of Castelnuovo Berardegna. Here the warmer temperatures produce bigger, riper wines than in the more northern villages. Part of the Bacci group of Tuscan wineries, Marco Bacci oversees the winemaking, using modern techniques while expressing the local terroir. 2016 was an outstanding vintage and an ideal one to produce this This Gran Selezione. 100% Sangiovese from Bacci's hillside vineyards that produce very low yields. It is aged 30 months in French Allier oak, 50% new barrels.
James Suckling scored this 95 points saying "Shows really beautiful aromas of lavender, tea leaves, dark cherries, heather, Thai basil and bay leaf. Full-bodied and ripe but very savory with a firm backbone of structured tannins. Compact and elegant but long and complex. Drink now or hold."
