Marchesi di Frescobaldi is one of Italy's most historic wine producers, dating back to the 1300s. They are also one of the most significant producers in Italy, with nine different estates and roughly 2,500 acres, all in Tuscany. This Super Tuscan blend is from their Castiglioni estate in the heart of Tuscany in the gentle hills of Val di Pesa. Here the richness of the weather and the soil is expressed in the structure of the wines, thanks to the symbiosis between fresh earth, a mild climate and the afternoon breezes from the Tyrrhenian Sea.The vineyards line the hills at 600-800 feet elevation. The focus here is on Bordeaux varietals with just 10% Sangiovese in the blend with 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, aged for 12 months in French oak barriques.
James Suckling scored this 92 points saying "This shows a very pretty center palate of ripe fruit, cedar and chocolate with firm and silky tannins and a fruity finish. Medium to full body. Cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot and sangiovese. Needs a year or two to soften. Try after 2021."Alcohol % | 13.0% |
