Amador County in the Sierra Foothills is home to some of the earliest Zinfandel plantings in California. Gold rush pioneers planted it in the mid-1800's and Zin has been grown there ever since. And conditions are ideal with a beautiful warm climate and rocky soils with good drainage. Terra D'Oro head trains and spur prunes all of it's Zinfandel vines to keep yields low. The grapes are hand picked and lots go into the crusher and are bled off to further enhance extraction and concentration. During fermentation the tanks are drained and refilled three times to extract maximum color and flavor. The wine is then aged 16 months in Hungarian, French and American oak barrels. Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored this 90 points saying "This big-boned wine has smoke and brown-sugar aromas, ample and delicious raspberry and blackberry flavors, firm tannins, supportive acidity and a lingering finish. While full bodied, it's well balanced and will taste great with big proteins." A Wine Express favorite!
