The original Stonehaven facility from which the makers of The Hidden Sea now operate won international acclaim as Winery Of The World at the 2001 San Francisco wine awards. The Winery is surrounded by 86 acres of vineyards on famous Padthaway Limestone. Sourcing fruit from the six flagship regions of The Limestone Coast, and selecting the best grapes from each terroir. Millions of years ago this land was covered by sea. As the sea resided, a bed of limestone was formed leaving in its place a landscape rich with shells, fish and even whale fossils. The nutrient rich, stony soils, layered over fossilised limestone, provides excellent drainage, balanced with perfect water retention. Influenced by the cool, coastal climate and artesian water supply, the grapes naturally ripen, slowly resulting in a bold flavor profile. Winemaker Grant Semmen, has a long history at big wineries. He knows how to create character in a wine and still offer it at a great value price. This 2015 Shiraz is just the ticket. It has ripe berry fruit with savory, spicy nuances, delectable richness on the palate and a balance that lets the quality and character of these Limestone Coast grapes shine through. This is a Shiraz that drinks like it's twice the price. Check it out!
