About The Ned 2016 Sauvignon Blanc, Marisco, Waihopai River, Marlborough

Marisco was selected as the New Zealand winery of the year in 2011 by the IWSC in London. The Marris family are descendants of William de Marisco (approximately 1100 AD), who was said to be one of the 35 illegitimate children of King Henry the First. They are pioneers in the wine industry of the Marlborough region. Their vineyard is located on the banks of the Waihopai River and on the Southern side of the Wairau Valley. The Waihopai River runs the length of their 643 acre vineyard. This location shows consistently warmer daytime temperatures and lower rainfall than areas to the North. These daytime temperatures, the Marisco wines. This Sauvignon Blanc is named after one of the tallest, most rugged peaks to the southeast of their vineyard. This Sauvingnon Blanc, produced in the 'New generation' winery, undergoes temperature controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks. They use carefully select yeast strains chosen for their ability to capture the true essence of Sauvignon Blanc. Wine Enthusiast Magazine saw the value in this 2016 and made it a Best Buy. They scored it 91 points and said "This medium-bodied Sauvignon Blanc is slightly leafy in style, but balances that with lush citrus fruit. The crushed tomato stalk and grapefruit come together in a dry, harmonious finish that's mainstream delicious. Drink now."
