About Trefethen 2018 Chardonnay Estate, Oak Knoll, Napa Valley, Half Btl 375ml
Half Bottle 375ml
Trefethen Estate winery is one of the few in Napa Valley that's never bought any grapes. All of their wines are produced with grapes sourced from their estate vineyards, mostly the 61 vineyard blocks that make up their Main Ranch. The establishment of the Oak Knoll District AVA in 2004 is in large part due to Trefethen's presence there. Just south of Yountville and Stag's Leap, Oak Knoll is one of the coolest regions in the Valley. That makes it ideal for growing Chardonnay with beautiful complexity and bright acidity.
This 2018, sourced entire from the Main Ranch is 61% barrel fermented. It spent 9 months in 13% new oak, but only 4% undergoes malolactic fermentation. The lively acidity brings makes a perfect match for food and even for cellaring. Trefethen Chards are famous for aging beautifully over many years.
Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored this 93 points saying "This is an elegant, classically styled Chardonnay, brimming in structure and a light touch of ripeness. Green apple, stone and apple blossom tones rise to the fore of the nose and palate. It’s low in oak and supple in texture."
Just awarded a Platinum Award, 97 Points in the Decanter World Wine Awards. They said "A delicious, enticing Chardonnay which draws you into the glass with its fresh lemon rind and pith characters, balanced by a touch of perfectly judged oak sweetness. Very textural, showing strident fruit and a juicy finish."
