About Trimbach 2021 Pinot Noir Reserve, Alsace

Since 1626, the Trimbach family has been promoting and producing fine wines of Alsace. They have been celebrated over the centuries with countless accolades, setting a true gold standard. Maison Trimbach is located in Ribeauvillé, where today three generations work closely together. Maison Trimbach’s vineyards are all situated around Ribeauville (Ribeauville, Hunawihr, Bergheim, Rorschwihr, Riquewihr and Mittlewihr). They benefit from the unique Alsatian microclimate, thanks to the Vosges Mountains protection from heavy rains. The vineyards were planted on the Ribeauville’s fault line that fractured 50 million years ago between the Vosges Mountain range and the Black Forest offering a mosaic of terroirs including the complex calcareous limestone and bio-degraded seashell fossils called “Muschelkalk”.

Grapes are hand harvested for this Pinot Noir Reserve. After de-stemming, the grapes undergo an 8-day cold maceration to extract color and fruit. Fermentation takes place in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. The Pinot Noirs are the only Trimbach wines which undergo malolactic fermentation (in tank) and they are bottled after 3 months ageing in stainless steel tanks.

James Suckling scored this 91 points saying "Very good ripeness for the challenging vintage with open black cherry and blackberry fruit with delicate spicy and red beet aromas. Medium-bodied with quite lively acidity that neatly interlocks with the restrained tannins. Good length and excellent harmony at the finish. From organically grown grapes."

Wine Enthusiast Magazine Scored this 90 points saying "Earth and licorice aromas give way to a beam of cherry flavors in this tightly wound red, with leafy and underbrush notes. The tannins are present but well integrated, supporting the long finish."
