About Vie Di Romans 2016 Chardonnay, Friuli Isonzo DOC
Vie di Romans means “road of the Romans” in the Friulano dialect and refers to the Roman road that connected the cities of Acquilea and Cividale which once passed through this vineyard. The 141 acres of vineyards are located in a niche microclimate that benefits from soil rich in alluvial fans and minerals that have been carried there by glaciers over the millennia, as well as, the Bora winds from the east that result in large, daily temperature fluctuations that all the grapes to ripen slowly and take on nuance and complexity.
100% Chardonnay that first undergoes a cold maceration for 20 hours. Fermentated in stailess steel tanks then takes place over 22 days. The wine aged in French oak barriques for 9 months sur lie.
The Wine Spectator scored this 91 points saying "Light- to medium-bodied and harmonious, with a lightly juicy, round frame for flavors of poached peach, quince paste, jasmine and pastry. Offers a creamy, spiced finish. Drink now through 2023."
